Welcome to the summer edition of Pink Finance, published bang in the middle of Pride season. I’d like to believe that us LGBT are fortunate in being able to have festivals and celebrations that allow us to come together with family and friends.
Amidst the parties and hedonism, its often easy to forget the real meaning of Pride. Pride was originally a protest striving to secure us freedom and the right to live our lives equally, peacefully and without the fear of discrimination.
At times we forget the pioneers of human rights, and the members of the LGBT community who took a stand on the 27th June 1969 in Christopher Street. The Stonewall riots paved the way for gay rights and the Pride festivals that we all enjoy today.
Our editorial this month is Freedom Finance, which highlights some of the positive changes for the gay community within the finance industry over the last decade. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate time to raise these issues again.
To celebrate we’re giving away the new version of the ABI Consumer Guide for Gay Men on HIV and Insurance. See below for details of how to subscribe to Pink Finance and get your free copy sent by email.

With both tax rates and allowances being a conversation topic at most dinner parties and family gatherings, it’s worth noting that Personal Pensions remain one way of getting your own back on the Chancellor and the Inland Revenue.
Tax relief on Personal Pensions is running at 20% for basic rate tax payers, and 40% for higher rate tax payers, which means that for every £100 contribution £120 actually goes into the plan. Higher rate tax payers can then claim another £20.
